On his debut, Hidden Turn seamlessly intertwines shadowy cinematics with playful half-time beats to magnificent effect, delivering four diverse tracks that offer a taste of things to come from this talented new artist. Kicking things off on an exploratory tip, ‘Simon’ is a sample-laden journey down an eerily dark, yet beautiful path that evokes a range of imagery as it proceeds. Next, ‘Binary’ rolls through generous sections of robotic future funk, pausing just long enough for an unexpected breakdown of blissful, angelic pads, and ethereal vocal samples. It’s a full-on bass meltdown on ‘Champion Change’ as heavyweight 808s boom along to an array of meticulously chopped percussive elements, and a breathtakingly lush vocal that carries the vibe to new heights. Rounding things out is ‘What’s Going On,’ a striking juxtaposition of Eastern strings and serious deep bass pressure destined to wreck any sound system.
