Translation welcomes Onism Qi to the family with the ‘96 Dreamer EP, a homage to the days of rave with a modern twist and fresh compositions unconstrained by tempo. Known individually as Quentin Hiatus, Thomas B, and Ghast, the stateside trio join forces to fuse jungle, hardcore, and house into sonic bliss for the dance. Title track ’96 Dreamer sets the tone of the EP with a vibe evocative of the warehouse days, building into a junglistic frenzy guaranteed to make you push up your lighter. All My Friends Are Dead dials down tempo to let the breaks shine through, while Blind pitches up the drums into a fusion of syncopated halftime rhythms, shimmering chords, and twinkling keys. Interlude Chaotic resets the vibe to usher in the finale, Circuitous, a futuristic mashup of deadly mid-bass and intensifying drum work that explores tension and release to brilliant effect on the outro.
